Celebrate the new year with Twenty-Ten skin

BoneyardBrew and SoapyHamHocks from deviantART.com have released an Office 2010 inspired theme that will make your Firefox installation look something like this:
Twenty Ten
if you do it right. Required addons listed below.

This theme was enough to get me back from Chrome (after having noticed that Chrome’s performance, too, is impacted by the installation of plugins). I’m sure you’ll like it too.

Rise Podcast 1: Introduction

I recorded a podcast with Paul Vardaris and William Phelps about Rise Gaming last night. This was my first podcast, and we’re still working out the technical difficulties (if anyone could explain to me why all my microphones buzz, regardless of quality, I will kiss you).

How to Preload Your Computer Before Logging in

I recently came across a problem – namely that despite having remote access to my computer through live mesh, it only works while the computer’s been logged into. I now found a way to preload the computer before I’ve logged in, so that anyone could turn it on for me. read more »

Windows 7 Student Offer

As many people know (by now), Microsoft is doing a special promotion for students on Windows 7. What some people may not have known, is that it has now made its way to the UK.

I just pre-ordered my own copy of Windows 7 for £30 – Professional, not Home Premium. Apparently they are giving some leeway for the Home Premium users! To those who are able to run 64 bit (most of you), I’d recommend getting it – as well as checking the box which allows you to download it again at any time as it only costs £4 extra. read more »

Aviary Desktop Icons

I’m trying to use Aviary instead of Photoshop now, so to start properly doing so, and adapting to these programs, I installed them all via Prism… and found I had no icons. So I made some.

You may see that I used two tools which made this process relatively easy. Why post it you ask? Because when I googled it, I couldn’t find it – et voilà – I made my own. read more »

Lifestream extensions

Since I was unhappy with the functions provided by the original Lifestream reddit function, I made my own, upgraded one, which includes your liked, disliked, submitted and commented on stories. Furthermore, I made a Wakoopa extension, as there was none provided, and tweaked the blog function in another plugin to say that you post things on your blog, if you use your live stream like I used to (as a home page).

Comments and criticism are welcome. read more »

Windows 7: the feature’s you will actually use

There’s been a huge buzz about Windows 7, and I’ll be the first to admit I’ve been a fan ever since PDC – which is incidentally around the time where I first installed it. The operating system is very stable – in fact, more stable than either XP or Vista were pre service packs. It’s stripped down to the point where it will run on netbooks at least as fast as XP (with eye candy), and no longer has a lot of unnecessary applications (such as Windows Movie Maker). But whilst many blogs have been circling this subject tirelessly, many fail to highlight the features that common people will actually use. read more »
